Basil Pruitt Named Among Tufts Most Distinguished Alumni

Founding NTI Board member Dr. Basil Pruitt, M.D., FACS, was honored this year as a Distinguished Alumnus of the Tufts University School of Medicine. A 1957 graduate of the school, Dr. Pruitt has been called “the father of modern burn care,” having helped develop an anti-bacterial cream that has dramatically increased the survival rate of burn victims. Dr. Pruitt has been an innovator in trauma and burn management for nearly 50 years.

Dr. Pruitt is a member of the faculty in the Department of Surgery at the UT Health Science Center San Antonio School of Medicine.

Ronald Stewart Assumes ACS Committee on Trauma Chairmanship

NTI founding board member and immediate past chair, Ronald M. Stewart, M.D., FACS, begins his appointment as chair of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) Committee on Trauma in March 2014. A professor and chair of the Department of Surgery at the UT Health Science Center San Antonio, Stewart is also a physician with UT Medicine San Antonio and a trauma surgeon at University Hospital.

He succeeds Michael F.  Rotondo, M.D., FACS, of Rochester, N.Y. He serves as the Committee on Trauma’s 19th chairman. Click here for full press release.
